What's really in your beauty products

Before my family went all natural, I was an advide user of makeup, lotions, perfumes you name it. But the more information I gathered about what is really in all of these beauty products made me second guess using them.

Everything and I mean everything has horrible chemicals in them that are detrimental to our health. From petrolatum, to parabens we will go through different products and what's really in them.

Lets start with Petrolatum
A soft, mineral oil jelly used in lip balms and lipsticks. Petrolatum, which is also used for gasoline, is the grease in a balm that helps your lips feel moist. However, this chemical interferes with the body's natural ability to create moisture and it will cause dryness in the long term, which just makes you use it more..

Imidazolidinyl Urea and Diazolidinyl Urea:
These popular cosmetic preservatives release formaldehyde, a toxic carcinogen linked to eye, nose, and sinus problems and various forms of cancer. The "Ureas" can be found in all types of water-based products, and are often in hypoallergenic products.

Parabens (Methylparben, Propylparaben and Butylparaben)
The most commonly used preservative in makeup. They are also in moisturizers, shampoos, etc.  The safety of parabens has been a hot topic of debate for over 30 years. While of course the FDA believes they are generally safe, they have been called toxic and said to imitate certain hormones, which can lead to cancer.

DEA, Cocoamide DEA and lauramide DEA (Related chemicals: MEA and TEA

In creamy and foaming products such as moisturizer, shampoo. Can react to form cancer-causing nitrosamines. DEA compounds are used to make cosmetics creamy or sudsy. DEA also acts as a pH adjuster, counteracting the acidity of other ingredients. DEA is mainly found in moisturizers and sunscreens, while Cocoamide and lauramide DEA are found in soaps, cleaners, and shampoos.
DEA and its compounds are shown to cause mild to moderate skin and eye irritation. In laboratory experiments, exposure to high doses of these chemicals has been shown to cause liver cancers and precancerous changes to the skin and thyroid.

Dibutyl Phathlate or DBP
Dibutyl Phathlate or DBP is used mainly in nail products as a solvent for dyes and as a plasticizer that prevents nail polish from becoming brittle. Also in hair sprays, they are commonly hidden on ingredient labels under the term "fragrance". Fragrance recipes are considered trade secret so manufactures are not required to disclose fragrance chemicals in the list of ingredients. DBP is absorbed through the skin, it can enhance the capacity of other chemicals to cause genetic mutations.

Formaldehyde-Releasing Preservatives
Look for DMDM Hydantoin, Methenmine, or Quarternium-15. These formaldehyde releasing agents are used as preservatives in a wide range of cosmetics. Other industrial applications of formaldehyde include production of resins used in wood products, vinyl flooring, and other plastics, permanent press fabric, and toilet bowl cleaners. These ingredients are a concern because they slowly and continuously release small amounts of formaldehyde, which the international Agency for Research on Cancer classifies as a known human carcinogen.

Synthetic fragrance and Parfum
Widely used even in products marketed as "unscented". This is a mixture of chemicals that can trigger asthma and allergies. Some linked to cancer and neurtoxicity. Some 3,000 chemicals are used as fragrances. Fragrance is a obvious ingredient in perfumes, colognes and deodorants, but its used in nearly every type of personal care product.

These are only some of the chemicals that are in your beauty products I could list thousands of them and their horrible effects on our health. Be wise when choosing beauty products. My moto
